Difference Between Perplexity and Complexity
While they sound similar, perplexity and complexity describe two different stages of a problem. In short: Complexity is about how the system is built, while Perplexity is about the level of uncertainty in predicting it.
1. Complexity (The "What")
Refers to the structural nature of a system. Something is complex if it has many interconnected parts or intricate logic.
- Focus: The object itself.
- Analogy: A giant maze with many paths.
2. Perplexity (The "How")
Refers to uncertainty or the level of confusion. It’s about how difficult it is to predict the next step.
- Focus: The observer or the AI model.
- Analogy: A foggy road where you can't see the next turn.
Comparison at a Glance
| Feature | Complexity | Perplexity |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Structural (many parts) | Statistical (unpredictable) |
| In AI | Number of parameters | Model's "confusion" level |
Catatan EYD: Dalam bahasa Indonesia, complexity diserap menjadi kompleksitas, sedangkan perplexity sering disebut perpleksitas dalam literatur teknis.
