Matching test items (often called matching test) are a form of objective test that asks test-takers to find and connect the correct pairs between two different groups of information. Soal tipe menjodohkan (sering disebut matching test) adalah bentuk tes objektif yang meminta peserta tes untuk mencari dan menghubungkan pasangan yang tepat antara dua kelompok informasi yang berbeda.
In general, this test consists of two columns: Secara umum, soal ini terdiri dari dua kolom:
  • First column (left): Contains a list of statements, questions, terms, or stems.
  • Second column (right): Contains a list of answers, responses, or options that must be matched with the first column.

  • Kolom kedua (sebelah kanan): Berisi daftar jawaban, respons, atau pilihan yang harus dicocokkan dengan kolom pertama.

  • Objective: Because the answers are predetermined, the scoring process is very easy, fast, and consistent.
  • Measuring Relationships: Very effective for assessing the extent to which learners understand the relationships between concepts, such as definitions and terms, cause and effect, figures and their works, or events and the year they occurred.
  • Efficiency: Capable of covering a lot of material in a single concise set of questions compared to multiple-choice or essay questions.
  • Objektif: Karena jawabannya sudah ditentukan sebelumnya, proses penilaian menjadi sangat mudah, cepat, dan konsisten.
  • Mengukur Hubungan: Sangat efektif untuk menilai sejauh mana peserta didik memahami hubungan antar konsep, seperti definisi dengan istilahnya, sebab dengan akibat, tokoh dengan karyanya, atau peristiwa dengan tahun kejadiannya.
  • Efisiensi: Mampu menampung banyak materi dalam satu rangkaian soal yang ringkas dibandingkan dengan soal pilihan ganda atau esai.

To ensure these items are effective and not confusing, educators usually apply several rules: Agar soal ini efektif dan tidak membingungkan, biasanya pendidik menerapkan beberapa aturan:
  1. Homogeneity: The content in a set of questions must have the same theme so that participants cannot easily guess the answer just by differences in category types.
  2. More Answers: Often, the number of answer choices in the right column is intentionally made greater than the number of questions in the left column to reduce the chance of participants guessing the last answer just by the elimination method.
  3. Clear Instructions: There must be explicit instructions on how to perform the "matching" (e.g., using lines, writing numbers, or choosing from a dropdown menu on digital systems).

Advantages & Limitations: Kelebihan & Keterbatasan:
  • Advantages: Efficient for testing factual memory, easy to construct, and has high scoring reliability because it is objective.
  • Limitations: Tends to be less effective for measuring higher-order thinking skills or complex analysis. If not designed carefully, this type of question also has a relatively high guessing rate.
  • Kelebihan: Efisien untuk menguji ingatan faktual, mudah dikonstruksi, dan memiliki reliabilitas penilaian yang tinggi karena bersifat objektif.
  • Keterbatasan: Cenderung kurang efektif untuk mengukur kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi atau analisis yang kompleks. Jika tidak dirancang dengan hati-hati, soal ini juga memiliki tingkat tebakan (guessing) yang relatif tinggi.
