A Data Support Manager oversees the technical support operations, infrastructure, and personnel dedicated to resolving data-related issues, maintaining database integrity, and assisting internal or external users with data systems. This hybrid role bridges the gap between end-user technical assistance and advanced data management, ensuring that data pipelines, reporting tools, and storage systems run smoothly.
Core Responsibilities
- Incident & Issue Management: Oversee tier-1 through tier-3 data support tickets, resolving complex database errors, query failures, synchronization bottlenecks, and data access permissions.
- Team Leadership & Operations: Supervise data support specialists or analysts, set performance metrics, establish escalation workflows, and manage daily support queue operations.
- Data Quality & Integrity Monitoring: Implement routine automated checks, validation scripts, and audit protocols to detect missing, corrupted, or duplicate data across enterprise systems.
- User Enablement & Documentation: Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), self-service knowledge bases, and training materials to help stakeholders navigate data platforms, business intelligence (BI) dashboards, and reporting software.
- System Maintenance & Collaboration: Partner with database administrators (DBAs), data engineers, and IT infrastructure teams to apply system patches, test data migrations, and upgrade integration pipelines.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Strong command of SQL for querying and troubleshooting databases, familiarity with ETL/ELT pipelines, and experience with cloud or on-premises storage environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Diagnostic & Analytical Mindset: Advanced root-cause analysis skills to diagnose complex data anomalies, script execution errors, or system integration dropouts.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent cross-functional translation skills to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users and coordinate requirements with engineering teams.
- Framework Familiarity: Working knowledge of IT service management frameworks (ITIL) and data governance standards.
